Summer Serrano | Founder & Master Esthetician
Summer embraces many roles that shape both her personal journey and the vision behind Sassy Face KC. As a devoted single mother to a spirited kindergartener and caregiver to her aging pets, her home life is a balance of joy, responsibility, and plenty of laughter.
Beyond her family, Summer dedicates herself to ongoing education, immersing in advanced trainings and courses that deepen her understanding of women’s evolving needs—particularly during the transitional years around menopause. This personal and professional growth allows her to walk alongside her clients, nurturing them through the very same seasons of life she herself is experiencing.
Music provides a steady rhythm to her days, while her attempts at gardening are often delightfully interrupted by her son’s fascination with backyard discoveries. These moments remind her of the fleeting nature of time and the importance of presence. With gratitude and intention, Summer seeks to savor life’s seasons, creating meaningful experiences both at home and within the sanctuary of Sassy Face KC.

“At Sassy Face KC, we believe facials are for every age and every stage of life. Too often, people assume they need a skin concern to “qualify” for a treatment, or that facials are only for younger skin. In truth, facials are just as much about preserving long-term skin health as they are about supporting mental and emotional wellbeing. For me, it’s one of the most meaningful forms of multitasking—nourishing the skin while calming the nervous system.
At home, it’s hard to carve out this kind of intentional care; daily distractions pull us in so many directions. That’s why I created Sassy Face KC: a space where you can pause, reset, and leave feeling more like yourself.”
I'm disrupting the "anti-aging" scene
After years in the beauty industry, I found myself searching for something more meaningful—an approach to skincare that went deeper than chemical peels or devices promising quick, surface-level results. While those methods can create change, I often questioned what they were truly doing to my clients’ skin over time. That’s what led me to adopt corneotherapy as the foundation of my practice: a science that honors and protects the skin barrier, ensuring health and resilience for the long haul.
My curiosity didn’t stop there. In 2022, I began studying Traditional Chinese Medicine esthetics, and I continue to expand my work through advanced fascia, muscle, and bone techniques with Helena Pahava. These studies confirmed what I intuitively felt—every wrinkle, crease, or area of redness tells a story. It’s not just about aging; it’s about posture, emotions, and the way our inner world expresses itself outwardly.
What I wanted for women was simple but profound: visible improvement from massage alone—results without needles. Over time, I’ve realized that when skincare promises “fast” outcomes, it often comes at a cost to long-term vitality. My mission became clear: to support the whole person by working with the root cause, honoring the skin’s energy, and using touch as a powerful tool for renewal.
To me, skincare has never been just about the skin—it’s about caring for the person within it.
So where would you ever find someone like this in the midwest?
Spoiler alert: there wasn’t one.

My Story
If anyone understands the struggle for better skin, it’s Sassy Face founder Summer Serrano. While beginning her 20s with a face covered with embarrassing breakouts, Summer set out to find answers, a path that led her to fall in love with esthetics in 2003.
Her career began at Beauty Brands, where she worked for over a decade while patiently tending to her well-established guest list & crafting her plan to launch Sassy Face when the time was right. In 2015, Summer stepped out on faith and opened Sassy Face just a block away, inside Sola Salon.
Seven beautiful & busy years later and as the new mom to a sweet baby boy at the beginning of the worldwide pandemic, Summer gained an all-new understanding and appreciation for the changes women undergo. Time constraints, simplification & stress reduction, were at the forefront of her guest’s needs, not to mention her own.
Sassy Face’s philosophy fully embraces celebrating the positives & every wrinkle. It is far too easy to focus on what we want to eliminate and often challenging to see what we appreciate. Sassy Face has found that by celebrating the positives, the “imperfections” can often become minimized throughout the experience. Emotions are deeply rooted in how our skin behaves, and a change in perspective is the first step in healing the skin and bringing it back to optimal health and vibrance. You can expect to leave learning and loving something new about yourself while having a cozy retreat that you have access to when you are ready to be a part of the Sassy Face family. What's with the name
“Thanks to my beautiful grandmother and my sassy little 2 year old mouth, the nickname "Sassy Face" was brought to life. Little did I know that decades later, I would fall in love with esthetics & have the name already in place for my business. Perfect isn't it?”
